How to Simply Be happy!
If you’ve got up on the wrong side of the bed (happens to us all!) sometimes it feels like you’ll never shake off those dark clouds. However, there are lots of things you can do to lift your mood. At Simply Be we want you to feel good as well as look good – so here are our top tips to Simply Be happy!
Uplifting scents
Fragrance has great power to affect your emotions. Something zingy and citrussy will clear your head and brighten your mood. Try an invigorating shower first thing with something warming like this Burt’s Bees body wash with citrus and ginger. Alternatively, simply add a spritz of a favourite perfume that you save for special occasions. It will make you think of happy times!

Colour therapy
Even if you’re the kind of person that lives in black, adding just a small splash of colour to your outfit can make a big difference. You may feel like hiding away but if you wear something eye-catching you’ll find that you’ll suddenly start getting lots of compliments – and you can’t beat that for a mood-booster! We dare anyone not to feel good in this gorgeous Joe Browns top. If you like to wear makeup, try a slick of bright lippy too.
You should cocoa
Eating healthily will make you feel good so make sure you get plenty of fresh fruit, juice or smoothies for a vitamin burst and plenty of water to keep headaches at bay. Having said that, it’s a scientific fact that eating chocolate releases endorphins in the brain that make you feel good so if you’re in need of a pick me up it’s the perfect treat! Go for a high cocoa content for even more of a hit and to avoid a sugar crash later on.
Talk the talk
If there’s a reason you’re feeling down rather than it just being ‘one of those days’ then you’ll feel much better for getting it off your chest. Get on the phone to a good friend or family member or invite them over, and tell them you’re in need of a rant or some advice. They’ll definitely understand, and no doubt you’ll do the same for them one day – if you haven’t already!
Sleep on it
Never underestimate the power of a good night’s kip. Get an early night and the next morning you may find that your mind has worked everything out overnight! Don’t be tempted to take an alcoholic drink to help you sleep; it may knock you out at first but after that it will have a negative effect on your quality of sleep. Try a relaxing bath, a milky (non-caffeinated) drink or a soothing essential oil on your pillow or in an oil burner.
Here’s to happy days!
Hup… 2… 3… 4…
1. Dare you…
There’s nothing like a good challenge to motivate you into action. So set yourself goals. Sign up for a 10km run… enroll on that climbing course… put a number on your target weight… and hey, don’t forget, you don’t have to do it alone – a bit of healthy rivalry between friends can be just what you need to revive your enthusiasm.
2. Find your niche…
Not everyone loves the gym and some people can’t stand running, so finding your ‘niche’ is really important. If you haven’t found an exercise regime you love, keep looking. Try taking a yoga class… go cycling… or plug in the wii everyday and burn off your calories with a virtual boxing match – whatever works for you!
3. Invest in your plans…
As a savvy shopper, there’s nothing more frustrating than buying something you’ll never wear. So investing in your fitness wardrobe is a great way to motivate yourself to stick with your 2010 plans. Think wear-by-wear – if you wear it once, it’ll cost £20 for that one wear… but if you wear it 50 times, it only cost 40p a wear!
