Some trends take off to such an extent that they stop being a trend – and just become year-round wardrobe staples. Take Ugg boots. They’re so comfortable they’re just never going to go away.

Next case – the maxi dress. This time last year they were hot property – and this year – nothing’s changed! It seems we’ve really fallen for the flattering, figure skimming shape and feminine swoosh of fabric around our ankles.

If you’re not a big dress wearer, or you just love that luxurious ankle-grazing length, then maxi skirts are definitely the way forward. Still bang on trend, but so much more versatile. Team with a cami and toe posts sandals on your holidays, layer it up with light knits for a cool casual look – you can even wear with boots into autumn and beyond.

Take a basic black maxi like this from our Angel Ribbons collection – it has so much potential!

We think the maxi skirt might be our new favourite item!

We may have loved our nudes and neutrals for a spell, and while we’ll always have a place in our hearts for good old classic black, when winter’s dark days are over we all want something with a little more zing!

Which is why we’re so thrilled at the huge colour comeback this season!

How to wear it:

Colour blocking

It’s all about colour on colour this season – even neon on neon if you should be so bold (and why shouldn’t you?)

How about these for pairings that pop?

If you simply can’t settle on just a couple of colours, go for the most fabulous print you can find…

This season, fashion gives a nod to two ever so glamorous decades of style. Both very different – and both very gorgeous!

Solar 70s

If you’re anything of a fashionista you can’t have failed to notice the resurgence of seventies style this season. We’re loving the flowing shapes and fabulous prints – it’s not often you get a look that’s so flattering yet that lets you make such a bold statement at the same time.

We’re celebrating the look with a brand new limited edition collection – Solar 70s. With gorgeous galactic prints and an edgy animal print twist it’s spot-on for spring. Don’t forget the accessories; Simply Be has a great range of platform and wedge shoes, wooden bangles and tasselled handbags for an authentic finish.

Vintage twenties – and all that Jazz

The 70’s isn’t the only decade making a comeback this season. Thanks to hit show Boardwalk Empire, we’re taking inspiration from even further back – the roaring twenties!

Boardwalk Empire is having such an influence on women’s wardrobes that people are even calling it the new Mad Men. To get the twenties look go for fab fringed dresses and tiered tops. Keep colours classy; a colour palette of black and cream is perfect. Finish with a medium heel and vintage-look clutch.

Ah the Oscars. Every year we gaze longingly at the fabulous gowns and the glittering stars and sigh. And then before you know it, they’re gone for another year!

It’s always a thrill to see what each actress will plump for – and to discover what the trends are. This year there have been two main trends.

We wrote about the first trend not so long ago – the Black Swan look.

The influence of the film (for which Natalie Portman scooped the Oscar for Best Actress) was clearly visible on the red carpet, with Mila KunisHilary SwankSharon Stone and Halle Berry all making an appearance in feathery or gauzy numbers.

Get the Black Swan look:

The other trend was for something completely different: bold berry shades of rich ruby red or plummy purple. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson looked stunning in plum, while Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock were ravishing in red.

Get the Berry Blast look:

Farewell Oscars – until next time!
